About the Program
The Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program was established in 2023. It is a specialized 3-year program. This program focuses on advanced training in pediatric surgery, covering a comprehensive range of surgical procedures and conditions specific to children. With a capacity for 1 fellow every 3 years, the program ensures an intensive learning experience. The three-year duration allows fellows to deepen their expertise in areas such as neonatal surgery, pediatric oncology surgery, and minimally invasive pediatric surgery. Graduates from this program are well-prepared to contribute to the field of pediatric surgery, providing specialized and comprehensive surgical care to children with various surgical needs.
Program Director Message
Dear Prospective Fellows,
A warm welcome to aspiring fellows interested in our Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program. We are eager to have you join our Program, as we strongly believe that this Program will take you through an exceptional educational experience.
Our program contains a robust hands-on experience that was gathered over many years and countless complex cases and surgeries. Our strong academic faculty who are experts in the fields of general pediatric surgery, pediatric urology, pediatric gastroenterology, minimally invasive surgery, oncology and burn service are highly skilled and committed to passing on their experience.
As experience is a crucial learning tool, our three-year Program provides the fellow with a broad experience in the clinical and operative setting; it is a competency-based program that emphasizes learning through hands-on experience. The goal of our Program is to present graduates who are enthusiastic and dedicated to the field of pediatric surgery.
Pediatric surgery is frequently regarded as a hybrid of pediatrics and general surgery, yet it differs significantly from both specialties in terms of the scope of practice. While general surgery has grown increasingly subspecialized, and most adult surgeons only do a small number of operations, pediatric surgeons serve a wide range of anatomical regions and age groups.
The program aspires to graduate fellows who excel as practitioners of pediatric surgery, however the joining fellows should have a clear mindset of becoming top leaders in this field, and defying the impossible, as quoted by his highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum “The word impossible is not in the leader’s dictionaries”. No matter how big the challenges, strong faith, determination and resolve will overcome them”.
As a Program Director, I promise to support each fellow to achieve their full professional and academic potential.
Warm regards,
Dr. Ghadir Jaber
