About Digital Health Projects
The Design Lab is dedicated to innovate at the point of care. In line with our mission, we have been working on different projects addressing specific challenge in different healthcare sectors. Find below some of the projects we have worked on.
Selected projects
Surgical Safety Checklist Box
In this study we designed an electronic Surgical Safety Checklist that projects the checklist elements on top of the patient’s surgical drape, while voice commands are used to navigate throughout the checklist. By means of our digital checklist, elements are easy to read, while the risk to forget to verify elements is lowered. The physical parts of the device are assembled by means of a 3D-printed scaffold (sketched and printed at the Design Lab), while the software was developed at the Design Lab too.
A Human-Centered Design approach to a healthier lifestyle
A healthy body makes a healthy spirit. The journey to find a better lifestyle is full of unknowns, challenges and barriers. Although more and more wearables and apps are available to guide people along the journey of wellbeing, most people still have difficulties to find their way. In this project, a team of multidisciplinary experts have embarked on the journey of designing a solution to help people have a better lifestyle based on local and cultural needs.
Can Virtual Reality support medical students in learning anatomy?
This project aims at evaluating the impact of VR on students’ anatomical knowledge on a long-term basis. More specifically, we will focus on two research questions: 1) Can VR improve students’ anatomical knowledge and understanding? 2) Do existing anatomy apps provide a sufficient user experience? The research is still ongoing and the first results should be available mid-2021.
Redesigning the experience of women undergoing cesarean delivery
Virtual Reality has been increasingly used as a non-pharmaceutical means to reduce stress, anxiety and pain. In this project we would like to investigate a medical procedure that has been overlooked by Virtual Reality: Cesarean delivery. Research shows that women who choose cesarean delivery have a higher level of preoperative anxiety and are at higher risk of postoperative pain. We are interested in exploring whether VR can help in reducing anxiety and postoperative pain.
